Porifera harbor an evolutionarily conserved family of bioactive molecules with a remarkable ability to modulate hemostasis. Combined with the feasibility of rearing these organisms in an environmentally sustainable manner, fully aligned with blue economy principles, our findings identify these acidic polysaccharides as strong candidates for next-generation anticoagulant therapeutics, with potential extending to regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
