[SCIENCE MONDAY] - This study demonstrates the downregulation of specific miRNAs concurrent with upregulated endogenous retrovirus HML-2 expression in ALS

This study investigates the role of microRNAs in regulating endogenous retrovirus HML-2 expression in ALS. HML-2 levels are elevated in patient leukocytes and negatively correlate with specific downregulated miRNAs (miR-15a, miR-150, miR-182, miR-221). Notably, miR-182-5p and miR-221-3p appear to directly bind the HML-2 transcript, potentially acting as suppressors of its expression. The downregulation of these miRNAs may account for HML-2 reactivation in ALS.
