[SCIENCE MONDAY] - Antibodies against neuronal proteins and endogenous retroviruses: a link between immunity and gene expression in dementia

In patients with Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and mixed dementia, antibodies against the neuronal protein ASRGL1 and against human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are elevated, despite reduced expression of the corresponding genes in the blood. This opposing yet coordinated pattern reveals a link between immunity and peripheral gene expression, paving the way for new biomarkers for dementia.
