The main cause of acute coronary syndrome is generally the rupture or erosion of an atherosclerotic plaque with consequent formation of a blood clot that can obstruct the vessel. Omics technologies are contributing significantly to unveiling the mechanisms involved in atherosclerotic degeneration and identifying new circulating markers. This chapter provides a critical analysis on the contribution of proteomics to understanding the pathogenetic mechanisms of acute coronary syndrome.
