The Department of Biomedical Sciences at SHARPER 2026

The University of Sassari is once again taking part in SHARPER (SHAring Researchers’ Passion for Enhanced Roadmaps), a national project dedicated to promoting scientific culture and showcasing research through the direct involvement of the public. In Sassari, the main event will take place on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Eugenio Tavolara Pavilion, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. SHARPER activities will also be held in the days leading up to and the weeks following the main event, including through collaborations with local schools.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences will be present at the Eugenio Tavolara Pavilion at Stand 8, offering three activities dedicated to exploring the microscopic world and biomedical research:

• “Inside invisible life: exploring cells and microbes in the laboratory” (September 24): an interactive workshop during which participants will be able to observe different types of cells under the microscope, from unicellular microorganisms to human eukaryotic cells, as well as the process of cell division;
• “An invisible world: discovering microorganisms” (September 25, morning): participants will be able to observe microscope slides and microbial cultures, identify the main differences between bacteria, fungi, and protozoa, and learn more about their roles in the environment, food, health, and scientific research;
• “The extraordinary contribution of the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) to biomedical discoveries” (September 25, afternoon): by observing insects and different mutant strains under the microscope, visitors will be introduced to the fundamental principles of genetics and learn about the contribution of Drosophila to biomedical research.
