Bariatric surgery reshapes more than just body weight. Using metaproteomic analysis of fecal samples collected before surgery and two years later, this study reveals persistent changes in the protein landscape of both the human gut and its microbiota, with important metabolic implications. These findings provide new insights into the biological mechanisms underlying the long-term effects of metabolic surgery.
